BlackBizMaps is the community map of Black-owned businesses — built by us, for us, and owned by no one but the people on it. Nobody is coming to build this for us. Every pin belongs to a real owner who built their own profile, because somebody from the community texted them the link and said, “you belong here.”
Our mission
Keep the dollar circulating
Every search, every call, every direction request on this map points a dollar back into our community. That is the whole point of the Black Dollar — and it is why it sits at the front of everything we build.
Protect our businesses
Reviews here go privately to the owner first, so our businesses get the chance to fix mistakes before the world judges them. We grow together — we don’t tear each other down.
Continuing the path — 1936 to today
They had the Green Book.
We have the map.
In 1936, Victor Hugo Green published The Negro Motorist Green Book so our people could find the barbershops, diners, garages and rooming houses that would welcome them. It wasn’t a business directory. It was survival, dignity, and a community pointing its own dollars toward its own people.
Ninety years later the road signs are gone, but the barrier is still real — it’s ad budgets, bidding wars and algorithms built for somebody else. Our businesses are still needles in a haystack. BlackBizMaps is that same book, rebuilt for how we live now: live pins, real owners, real directions, no paywall between a shopper and the people they want to support.
I may have built the platform, but it’s us who will carry it and make it live on forever. A founder only lays the foundation. The community is what makes it a landmark.
